SMART Goals:

Grow monthly users of CalPal mobile app by 1,000 users per month within Q4 of 2020.  This will be accomplished by optimizing our app store listing and by creating targeted social media advertisements to begin running in October 2020 on three social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Our mobile is our primary point of conversion for paid customer sign-ups, so the aim of growing our app usage is to ultimately increase sales.

Who: Americans
There are many things that make a person human. Family, sleep, work, but one
essential part of the human experience is food. Without food a person ceases to
exist. Fortunately In America food can be found on nearly every corner. Less
fortunately however is that the abundance of cheap, fast, and unhealthy food
has caused problems for millions of Americans. It is all too easy to stop at a
fast food restaurant and order a burger and soda with fries, but doing this
often can cause health problems such as obesity and diabetes. One way to combat
such illnesses though is being educated and informed on just what is going into
one's body.

Data in Who:
Age, gender, Family structure, education, lifestyle, job.

What: One way to help people
stay informed could be an app. An app to help count calories and have all the
information on how many calories are in what you eat can lead to healthier
lifestyles. Knowing that a chicken sandwich is fewer calories than a double
cheeseburger can be the first step to making healthier choices and creating a
better quality of life.

Data in What:
Calories of food, nutritional value, daily intake of calories.

●     Be more aware of the
food that is being put into their body

●     Make better decisions
about food to lead a healthier life

●     Help with portion
control and calorie intake

●     Develop healthier
habits regarding food

Why: Keeping weight,
gaining weight, or losing weight can be a struggle for many people, especially
when work, family, and social life takes precedence over what they are eating.
Having the ability to track and evaluate their calories at the touch of a
button will be a powerful tool in adapting the lifestyle that best fits what
they need. CalPal can be that tool.

Data in Why:
Needs of the consumer to be healthier, easy access to nutritional information,
tracking of daily nutrition/calories consumed.

 Identify 3 competitors:

 My fitness pal:

•Function:
calculate and measure calories in food that we consume and also plan our diet
to reach our weight goal.

•Interface
design: The interface’s words are easy to read with simple colors of blue and
white mostly. The downside is that there are too many features that are all
over the place which will confuse beginners.

•Business
model: it has a premium subscription based mode which removes adds and further
improves our experiences at planning our diet.

•Promotion:  they launch ads to many social media apps
like facebook and instagrams

 Run keeper:

•Function:
tracking our steps and plan our exercise using GPS

•Interface
design: the color and design are also similar in color which is blue and white
that is simple to look at and is not confusing at first because the design is
very simple.

•Business
mode: it also has a premium subscription based business model that gives users
more details and advanced features.

•Promotion:
this app also has ads on social media like facebook and tikktokk

 Eat This Much:

•Function:
planning meal for anytime range based on our preferences

•Interface
design: Bright orange color with many pictures, icons, and cartoons which help
visualize the plan much better and are very family friendly.

•Business
model: premium subscription based model that also gives users more features and
the most useful is automatic meal planning feature.

•Promotion:
the owner also uses social media to promote his product. One of them is youtube
which has a video of him showing us how to use his app.

3) There are multiple points that we can do to improve our app, over our
competitors.

First, we need to see which competitor is the
weakest and why are they like that. So, Eat this Much has only 10,000 reviewers
but Run Keeper has 242,000 and MyFitnessPaul has millions. Eat This Much has
too few features compared to myfitnesspal. So when a consumer decides he/she
will think why should I choose Eat This much when myfitnesspal is clearly a
better option. What Eat This Much app has is a simpler and better UI design
simply because it has less features. So our app should aim to have bigger audiences
by having tons of features but with icons, pictures, cartoony stuff like in Eat
This Much and also must design carefully on the UI for user friendly.
